I recently completed Prison Yoga Project’s Foundational Training, “Yoga Through the Lens of Trauma and Incarceration.” This training dove into the current state of incarceration in America, how trauma lives in the body, and how somatic practices like yoga can offer tools for healing and self-regulation, especially in high-stress, high-restriction environments like prisons. With my degree in Psychology, I’ve always been drawn to the connection between mind and body, and learning to understand how trauma shapes the nervous system, and how a trauma-informed approach to movement can help people reclaim a sense of safety and agency. 🪽 It feels especially meaningful to learn from an organization founded in my home town, at San Quentin in Marin. I wanted to share this to spread awareness about the amazing work @prisonyogaproject does. 🤍🤍🤍🤍
